What is HPMC (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose)?
Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether derived from natural refined cotton through a series of etherification reactions. It appears as an odorless, tasteless white powder that dissolves in cold water to form a colloidal solution with thickening, bonding, dispersing, adsorbing, and gelling properties.
HPMC is one of the most widely used cellulose ethers in construction, daily chemicals, coatings, and pharmaceutical applications. Its versatility comes from its adjustable viscosity range (10–200,000 mPa·s), stable pH tolerance (6.0–8.0), and two distinct gel temperature ranges: 54–64°C (60°C) for standard grades and 70–90°C (75°C) for high-temperature-resistant grades.
